You can absolutely solve the case without the Casebook, plenty of readers do. It's simply there to make the solve smoother and help you stay organized across your sittings.
It includes space to work through each clue, track which chapters and pages you've cleared, and log the names still in play as the field narrows. Instead of flicking back through the book trying to remember where you got up to, you'll have your whole investigation in one place.
It's completely optional, but if you like working methodically, the Casebook turns a big solve into a satisfying, organized one.

About the Author
Charlotte Brooke has always been drawn to puzzles that reward patience: the crossword you can't leave unfinished, the logic grid that finally clicks, the mystery you solve one step ahead of the detective.
