1. About this policy

This Privacy Policy explains how ECOMMERCEAU PTY LTD (ACN 699 073 428), trading as Corex Books ("Corex Books", "we", "us" or "our"), collects, uses, stores, shares and protects personal information when you visit corexbooks.com, purchase our books, or otherwise deal with us.

We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Because most of our customers are in the United States, this policy also sets out the rights that apply to US residents and how to exercise them.

By using our website or buying from us, you acknowledge that your personal information will be handled as described in this policy. If you do not wish your information to be handled in this way, please do not use our website or provide us with personal information.

2. What personal information we collect

Information you give us:

Name, shipping and billing address, and your contact details (email address and/or phone number) when you place an order or contact us.
Order details and purchase history.
Messages, questions and feedback you send us, including survey responses and any reviews or ratings you submit (which may be published on our website with your first name or username; you can ask us to remove a published review by contacting us).
Account details if you create one.

Information from phone calls:
We may call you about your order or in response to a query. Calls may be recorded for training and quality assurance purposes. Where a call is recorded, we will let you know at the start of the call.

Information collected automatically:
When you access our website, we and our service providers collect certain information by automated means, including through cookies and similar technologies. This information may include your IP address, device and browser type, approximate location derived from your IP address, the pages and content you access, and the source from which you navigated to our website. The technologies used, and the choices available to you, are described in section 4.

Payment information:
When you pay, your card details are collected and processed by our payment providers (including Shopify Payments and its processors). We do not store full card numbers on our systems.

We do not intentionally collect sensitive information (such as health, racial or political information), and we ask that you do not send it to us.

3. How we use your information

We use personal information to:

Process, fulfil and ship your orders, including through our print and fulfilment partners.
Provide customer support and respond to your questions, including by phone.
Verify puzzle solutions and manage any account or verification services we offer.
Send you marketing and updates about our books, where permitted (see section 5).
Measure and improve our website, products, advertising and customer service, including through call recordings.
Detect and prevent fraud, and keep our website secure.
Meet our legal and record-keeping obligations.

4. Cookies, analytics and advertising

We use cookies and similar technologies to run the website, remember your preferences, understand how the site is used, and deliver and measure advertising. These may include:

Functional and shopping-cart cookies (including those set by our store platform, Shopify).
Analytics provided through our store platform to help us understand how the site is used.
Advertising and remarketing pixels, including the Meta (Facebook and Instagram) pixel, and Google advertising and remarketing tools, which help us show and measure ads. This may involve sharing limited data with those platforms.
Email tracking through our email provider (Klaviyo) that tells us whether our emails are opened and links clicked.

Your choices: You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, adjust ad preferences through Meta's and Google's ad settings, and use tracker-blocking tools. We honour the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal. Turning off optional tracking will not stop you using the site.

5. Marketing

We will only send you marketing where you have opted in or where you would reasonably expect it, and you can opt out at any time using the unsubscribe link in any message or by contacting us. Where we send marketing by email or SMS, we comply with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth).

6. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited personal information with advertising platforms (as described in section 4) for targeted advertising purposes, which may constitute “sharing” under certain US state privacy laws; you can opt out as described in sections 4 and 10. Otherwise, we share personal information only with:

Service providers who help us run the business, including our store, hosting and payments platform (Shopify), which stores customer and order data on our behalf; payment processors; our email and reviews provider (Klaviyo); and advertising platforms (Meta and Google).
Fulfilment and manufacturing partners who print, pack and ship your order, including partners located overseas.
Marketplaces such as Amazon, where you buy through them.
Professional advisers (legal, accounting) where reasonably needed.
Authorities where required or permitted by law.
A successor entity if our business or assets are sold or transferred.

7. Overseas and cross-border handling

We operate from Australia and the United States. Our website, hosting and payment platforms process and store data in the United States, and some of our fulfilment and manufacturing partners are located in other countries, including China and the United Kingdom. As a result, personal information you provide may be transferred to, and stored or processed in, countries other than the one in which you live. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled with a level of protection consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles. Our store platform (Shopify) stores customer and order data on its servers, primarily in the United States.

8. How long we keep it

We keep personal information only for as long as needed for the purposes in this policy, including fulfilling orders, supporting customers, meeting legal and tax obligations, and resolving disputes. For example, we typically retain order and transaction records for seven years to meet tax and accounting requirements. We then delete or de-identify it.

9. How we protect your information

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access, including access controls and secure platforms. Where your information is stored with our store platform (Shopify), it is held on their secure, access-controlled infrastructure. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Your rights

All customers: You may ask us to access or correct the personal information we hold about you, or ask a question about how we handle it, by contacting us using the details in section 13.

Australian residents: If you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles, you can complain to us first. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or 1300 363 992.

US residents: Depending on your state, you may have the right to know or access the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, obtain a portable copy, and opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information or of "targeted advertising". To exercise any of these, contact us using the details in section 13 or use the opt-out mechanisms in section 4, including the GPC signal. We will respond to verifiable requests within 45 days (or longer if permitted by law, in which case we will let you know). We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights, and we may need to verify your identity before responding.

11. Children

Our website and books are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it as soon as reasonably practicable.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by posting a prominent notice on our website before the change takes effect. The current version is always posted on our website with the "Last updated" date above.
